In late February of 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine in an attempt to steal territory from millions who had called it home. As a result, fathers were called up to fight for their country, while many mothers and children were forced to flee their homeland. Considering my personal connection to this (my mother was a Ukrainian refugee), I knew I had to do something to mitigate the pain of the Ukrainian children. By utilizing my lifelong passion for soccer, I believed I could help establish a sense of safety and inclusion with the Ukrainian children. To do this, I launched a series of free soccer camps to show Ukrainian refugee children that they are not alone, and that there are others in their similar situation.
Ukraine's Current Situation:
The goal is to help as many Ukrainian refugee children as possible. Along with that, also to improve the program by inviting professional soccer players, and increasing quality of equipment and prizes ( which are backed by donations). Please spread the word about our program!
The Meaning Behind Goals For Hope
Goals For Hope has two meanings.
A goal is when a player scores a ball in the net in soccer. This represents the primary objective of the game, therefore representing it. By playing soccer, this creates hope for the Ukrainain refugee children. It brings them together and shows not only that they are not alone, but that there is a place for them in a country so far from home.
Figuratively, a goal represents something that should be worked towards to achieve. By creating goals for yourself, you have something to look forward to in the future. For a Ukrainian kid, it may be to join a soccer club, or score a goal at the next Goals For Hope session. This same excitement for the future is also called hope.
There Is Hope.
